# Connect Ghost

> Connect a Ghost site so daoco can read posts, newsletters, and email stats, and save drafts for you to send from Ghost.

Ghost is an **Available** Mail & Calendar integration. It uses the Admin API key from a Ghost custom integration.

With Ghost connected, daoco can:

* Read your posts and newsletter sends with their email stats: recipients, delivered, opened, and open rate.
* Read your newsletters and how many members and paid members the site has.
* Create a draft post, or change a draft that has not been published.
* Upload an image to the site's media library for a draft's feature image or body.

daoco never publishes, schedules, or emails a post. Ghost only sends a newsletter when someone publishes or schedules a post with a newsletter selected, so every send stays with you in Ghost Admin. Each draft and image upload asks for your approval first.

## Before you connect

Custom integrations work on self-hosted Ghost and on Ghost(Pro) plans above Starter. You need to be an Owner or Administrator on the site to create one.

## Connect Ghost

<Steps>
  <Step title="Create a custom integration in Ghost">
    In Ghost Admin, open **Settings** → **Integrations** and choose **Add custom
    integration**. Name it daoco and copy the **Admin API key**. The Content API
    key will not work.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open the Ghost card">
    In daoco, open **Connections** → **Integrations** → **Mail & Calendar** and
    choose **Ghost**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enter the site address and key">
    Enter your Ghost site address, for example `https://yoursite.ghost.io` or
    your custom domain, and paste the Admin API key. Choose **Connect**. daoco
    checks the key against your site before saving it.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Use it from chat">
    Ask [`/integration`](/connections/integrations#what-is-mcp) for your last
    month of newsletter sends and their open rates, or ask daoco to write this
    week's issue as a Ghost draft. daoco returns a link to the draft in the
    Ghost editor, where you review it, choose the newsletter, and send.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Warning>
  Do not paste the Admin API key into chat. daoco encrypts keys entered in the
  connection form. If you regenerate the key in Ghost, reconnect Ghost in daoco
  with the new key.
</Warning>

## If the connection fails

* **The key was rejected:** copy the Admin API key again from the custom integration, not the Content API key.
* **No Ghost Admin API answered:** check the site address. On Ghost(Pro), the `yoursite.ghost.io` address always works.
* **Ghost redirected the request:** use the address the error names as the site address.

## Where it shows on Home

Once connected, the **Newsletter** area on Home shows your member count, member clicks and opens per emailed post, and the posts waiting as drafts.
